I think it’s a great space saver in the garden and it really produced LOTS of ears of great sweet corn. I can’t even begin to know the number of ears I’ve pulled so far. However, I’m not sure I’m gonna plant like that again. I know that a 4” spacing is to close for me. The plants are way to thick and I think the ears could be bigger. You have to dig thru the foliage to find the ears and the stalks are small.
I do like the idea of watering 2 rows of corn with 1 drip tape and fertilizing 2 rows at a time. I think this concept could work fine with a 10-12” spacing and wider spacing between the rows. And also I’m thinking this concept would be better on a smaller scale. That is a whole lot of corn to have to deal with at one time. Some of my neighbors are starting to close the doors and turning the lights out when they see me drive up. rofl
I planted 3 short 30’ rows to experiment on seed spacing. I double planted 1 row with 8” seed spacing. 1 with 10” and 1 with 12” spacing to see what difference it makes. I just finished planting the last patch of the year. I planted 6 110’ rows of SV9010SA at a 6” seed spacing and single planting row. We shall see how this variety turns out.

Your corn looked fine, and apparently made a good crop. I’m hoping to get a bigger place to plant next year. I my be using some of your methods

Yes sir I did. Some of the ears were a little smaller then I think they should’ve been. But with what that poor corn went thru I’m very thankful to have any at all. The 3 rows of Aspire 2
That was planted a week later seams to have a pretty good size ear. I will start pulling those in a few days. I will update as I get some out.

I took Marsh advice on my VERY small area and am having same results. I flunked on putting enough nitrogen to them so I’m getting earlier than anticipated tasseling but they are taller at this point of tassel than ever before, almost 6’ so I’m happy. Anticipating ears to start very soon (I planted late)

Hit it with a good dose of nitrogen and water it good now and it finish out your plants and help with the ear developement. It’s also the most important time to keep them watered. If the leaves curl the plants are stressing. I hope you make lots of delicious corn

Picked a few ears of the Aspire 2 this afternoon. These are really good size ears and all the cobs filled out nicely. TS Barry knocked lots of these plants down and many didn’t finish the ears but still very happy with what we are getting out. There is still a crap load of ears yet to be picked. Gonna get them in a few more days. [Linked Image]
