I know this is irrelevant but id buy him some land with that money and buy a 5k vehicle. In 10 years he will have land and the truck will be junk.

I'd be willing to bet they will be less reliable than the 5.0 when the miles get up there. As cliche as it may sound, there is still no replacement for displacement. Always comes at a cost. I would be willing to bet the 5.0 will hold its resale better too. I feel like there would be alot folks in the used truck market seeking it out over the turbocharged v6 when it's got a bunch of miles on it, because there is less to tear up and replace. Every component has a lifespan. It adds a couple extra thousand+ dollar parts plus labor to maintaining the vehicle as it ages. The more moving parts and more there is to tear up, which plays a role in resale when the miles get high.

I don't care if it's 1000 horsepower. I'll never own a truck with a 3L engine.
Size matters.

Yes. And I agree JBL. I had an ecoboost that was getting up there in miles. I don't tow, so I opted for a 5.0 with 3.31s. It definetely doesn't have the get up and go of the ecoboost (especially with 3.31s and 34" BFGs), but I get better mileage with it, and I don't have to worry about turbos grenading.

The V6 3.5 Ecoboost is considered the premium motor in that truck. Pretty sure it's about a $2500 higher option.

I believe Ford is also currently or will be in the near future selling more Ecoboosts than 5.0s.
Both are good.

Check this video from a local dealership. They asked the technicians which engine they would choose.

Grandson is 24. I gave him about 120 acres of land about two months ago. He works hard and has a good job, brings home over $1,000 a week, but when we got to the dealership they were a bit of a prick IMHO. They didn't want to come off the price at all, and then they ran his finances they told him that he didn't have a high enough credit score, he pays everything in cash and has no debt. So we are reconsidering his options.

If he can get pre approved from his bank that will give him some leverage at the dealership.

I have a 2015 F150 crew with leather and ecoboost, 80k Miles. 4wd. Going to sell it soon. It obviously will be much, much cheaper than 41k.

14 listed on AutoTrader within 200 miles of my house, listed between $37,000 and $45,000. Price seems to be in line with the market.

Some folks here think it's still 1995 when it comes to truck pricing. Price seems to be in line. My advice would be, co-sign with him for 6 months, with you holding the title/note. At that point, he has a credit score, and can re-finance in his name.

If you want my auto broker's name, PM me and I'll send it to you in case they won't deal.

I think that price is in line with what they are selling for but you can buy a brand new Ford in a lesser model for $41k

My advice is continuing that practice, even with trucks. I sure wish I had been smart enough, at 24, to do that.
