I’ve rarely ever anchored a boat, but my fishing style has drastically changed. I’ve been after catfish lately and plan on chasing crappie.
The other night, my son and I tried to anchor by Stevenson bridge and drop bait on the down river side of the pillars, but the current was rolling. I had 2 15lb anchors out with 50’ each of anchor rope, but it just wouldn’t hold. I’m not sure what the proper name name for the anchor is, but I’ve heard them called river anchors. Like a mushroom anchor, but three distinct petals.
What kind of anchors do y’all use in moderate currents?

How deep is the water there? I'm asking because your anchor rope should be several times the depth of the water.
Yeah,what GK said.

I absolutely HATE using an anchor. The Ultrex trolling motor that I bought would be the very last item on the boat that I’d part with if I had to sell something. In consistent current or a good breeze blowing the boat absolutely just doesn’t move. I have an 80lb 24 volt. If I had known how much I’d be fishing below the dam I would have gone with the 36 volt 112lb or whatever the poundage is. Mine won’t hold the boat when the turbines are rolling full bore.
There are cheaper TM’s with spot lock than mine. Any MK motor with spot lock would function as good as mine as long as it’s 2 years old or newer with the newer spot lock The 1st Gen spot lock isn’t worth having.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Folks dont realize how dangerous it is to anchor in current like what's below the gville dam. Glad your TM will hold.

Claw anchor with an eye on top and bottom. Connect 3' of chain to the bottom eye then zip tie the chain to the top eye.
Guess I should have mentioned I use the zip tie so if the anchor get stuck I can brake the zip tie and pull the anchor fro the bottom. Most of my fishing is in rocky heavy current areas

Most of my fishing is in rocky heavy current areas I’ve seen those. Called hurricane anchors. I’ve considered building one. Have the steel and the welder, it’s just finding time to make it.
