They will eat it more when the ratoon crop is making a hard grain in late fall early winter. They do use it for cover. There will be beds all over in the fields. marshmud991 OP 14 point M Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 9,052 USA	We fly the seed into a flooded field and and once the seed sprouts we drain the fields and let the rice grow for a few weeks and then flood the fields and watch it grow. It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chews your a$$ all day long.

However the rice is definitely at the wrong stage to get lots of rain and wind on it. It could blow it down flat on the ground and then the water will go over the grain heads and ruin the whole crop.
