Agreed. My 270 will drop anything in Alabama. Only a small part of me wishes I had bought 30-06

I've noticed no difference in dead between .270 Win, .280 Rem, or .30-06 Sprg. Based on this high scientific evidence, I posthume that this case deisgn to be the most lethal of all time .

I believe AC is saying that the .308 case design should also be considered as "most lethal of all time". It would include the .308, 7/08, .260, and .243.

Of course, the 30/06 case also must include the 25/06, too.

You should also include the 338-06 A Square and 35 Whelen in the 06 class of SAMMI approved cartridges.

Add the 338 federal and 358 Winchester to the 308 class.

But we are getting waaay off topic aren't we?

Yes...we're getting a bit off topic. And, while I do agree with what you're saying, I was simply trying to stay with mainstream calibers...those readily available at Walmart, etc. I know the .35 Whelen is a dang fine cartridge, but not all the major firearms manufacturers make rifles in that caliber anymore (and the .260 might fall into this category as well, now).

Off topic still.....
Yes there are many fine calibers and they can do great things. But there is no way to deny that at least for hunting, nothing has had the influence that the 30-06 casing has had. Even things like a 7mm mag are really just an attempt at a better 270.

Wsm and wssm are cool. Buy what you like. But don't dismiss the classics. They are still popular for good reason.
