It was an early morning, but man was it a blast. Left home at 4 am, started fishing at 8:00 and caught a few 'regulars' on bottom rigs. About 9:30 a spanish mac blitz hit right in front of me and for about 15 minutes, we had one every other cast (Ethan and I were sharing the big rod). I threw a few small ones back, and I had two or three come off on the way up. The biggest one I've ever had on the hook in my life came off right as I was starting to lift him up to the deck. He had two drag stripping runs before I got him close. Man, I was sick. We should have had five good ones, but had to settle for two. Ethan faught the biggest one all the way in after I casted out to them and had a hit. Had a good blue runner hit the gotcha, and I caught a small bluefish. Not bad for 4 hours of fun. And FYI: a sabiki rig is a great way to make it interesting when things got a little dull.. Ethan pulled up a half a five gallon bucket of baitfish, and loved every second of it.

I went last October. Got to the pier at 9pm. Had a spincast to catch bait, and and big rig for sharks. Had a blast fighting sharks for the next 4 hours. The last one finally spooled me before I could turn it. I know you can't hoist them up, but I can't stop them from taking the bait.

I dont know if they ever did it, but some locals told me they were thinkin about letting folks catch and kill for a few weekends a year due to too many local sharks hangin around. I ve been out there on that early mornin bite and cant keepem off the line and if you hooked up on any kind of decent fish theyd shred it before you could get a gaff in it. Walk down toward the cleaning station and you will see sharks. Some biggins too.

They now have a "shark draw" sort of like the aliigator hunt draw. You have to register and if chosen, you get to shark fish on designated NIGHTS. You are allowed one helper and everyone else that is on the pier has to stay of the octi (end of the pier). Problem with the way they are doing it is, the sharks are attracted to the pier by the kings and spanish being caught. Very few, if any, kings and spanish are caught at night, therefore very few sharks have been caught.
