Do any of you use the fish rules ap on your phones when salt water fishing to keep up with the regs , seasons,limits and fish identification for the area you are fishing. I haven’t done much saltwater fishing , but it seems like a good tool . I know salt water regs can change at any time , so I was wondering how often this updates and how it works if you lose service when getting too far out from coast.

I normally just check the website (outdoor Alabama) the new Regs for Flounder & Spec goes into affect August 1st

That’s what I usually do as well since most of my fishing is for frout and reds and I know those regs , limits and creels like the back of my hand. But it never fails a few times each year that I catch something I’m not expecting and don’t know if it’s big enough or has a season. I let a 34 inch cobia go last year while wading for trout. ,. Had never caught one and a guy who watched me catch it told me he thought 36 inches was the minimum. . Wish I would have had that ap that day.. Other fish I have caught that surprised me and I didn’t expect to catch while wading the bay were blue fish, triple tail, black drum and Spanish mackerel. None of which I knew how long they had to be or to measure the whole fish or fork length,

Recently my brother bought a boat and we have started going off shore. Now we have a whole new group to learn and a bunch of different seasons , size limits and creel limits to learn. Also different species to identify.. We caught a couple hind grouper on our first few trips but let them go not knowing what they were. Would have been nice to scroll through the pics identify them.
