Not cheap.Would be a great upgrade though with what your using now.I've got 4 different rods that I use,but never felt the need to spend the money for an Orvis.Never used one though...

Graphite, slow action, 8-9 foot, 4 or 5 weight will do fine.

I used a fiberglass South Bend 7 weight 7'6" for brim for many years.

I have a 9’ TFO rod and midge reel and love it.

I've had an Orvis, St. Croix, and TFO. I've used a lot of other good brands like sage, etc.. Best value/bang for buck was the TFO.

TFO rods are great rods for the money. And they have a lifetime warranty. But, no way you need anything larger than a 4 weight fly rod for bluegill. Unless you just want to overpower them. A 3 weight would make any bluegill a fun fight. A one pound gill on a 3 weight rod would be a blast!

I second the 3wt suggestions. Especially if this is strictly for panfish. Get a 9' 3WT and put some WFF line (3WT) on it and you'll be set. I'd also recommend TFO and Redington as good brands without breaking the bank. TFO has an excellent warranty.

TFO for sure or Eagle Claw Featherweight if you like fiberglass. The Eagle Claws are nice fiberglass rods for cheap. Sierra Trading Post usually has a pretty good assortment of quality fly rods and reels at clearance prices.

I’ve got about a half dozen different size Orvis rods. They are really nice rods. Also, their warranty is fantastic. My dad forgot one was leaned against the back of the truck and backed up and ran over it. They replaced it, it even when they were told hot it was broken.
