Wife posted an article from the CWS that brought up the disparity in scholarships again. I get 85 with football. It makes money, but it can also go thru athletes since it's such a violent sport. 22 starters + specialty players + backups etc...I get 85. Basketball starts 5 players and most teams run thru a couple subs each game...it gets 13 scholarships. Then you have baseball...27 on a d1 roster and they get 11.7? Why is that? Podunk d1 basketball don't put that many butts in seats. A lot of podunk d1 football teams don't put enough butts in seats to pay the bills (UAB come to mind). But all those schools still cover their respective scholarships, yet baseball gets 11.7. I just don't get it.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

It's not "the same". D1 softball gets more (well .3 more). Heck equestrian gets 15 (and someone has to buy/care for the horses)! Lax and field hockey each get 12. Mens lax gets 12.6...just don't see enough butts in seats for mens lax (at most schools) to pay the bills if it's all about the money.

I'd be willing to bet that an average D1 program's basketball team puts a lot more butts in seats than baseball but I get your point. Morris played a little college baseball so he may have an opinion.

Then there is the disparity in the SEC. The teams in the league that have lottery scholarships put the players that are eligible on these and use the 11.7 for out of state players. This really puts UA and AU behind the 8 ball from the start. When they do well they have really done something. I've heard the coaches gripe about this as something that needs to be fixed. Apparently they don't have a rule like football that says that anyone on any type of scholarship counts toward the 85 (or 11.7 as it is in Baseball).
Before Title IX AU had a Men's Wrestling team and no Equestrian team. On the flip side, Softball was more like an intramural sport than the competitive sport it is in as many schools today.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Hope and lottery scholarships have put Alabama and auburn behind the ones who have it for years. (As I’ve always been told) If Georgia recruits a kid from Georgia who meets the minimal academic requirements, he doesn’t count against their baseball 11.7
