I cant say that I ever stuck my hand in the ground sliding. Why would you do that? I was trying to get my hand on the bag and hold on to it. The only thing I ever scratched up sliding headfirst was the inside of my elbows Instinctively reaching down to catch yourself. I did it on all my pop-up slides but never on a hook slide.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

If you want to always win, never play anyone better than you!

Anyone else notice that Albies with the Braves had a sliding mitten with the end cut out to allow his fingers to extend out the end so he could grab on to the bags as he slid past? I bet this will be a thing now even though there are still going to be some players trying to get the few extra inches from the mitten. Doesn't everybody want to get a few extra inches?
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

That's why you should just "Pete Rose" slide.
Illegal in high school ball, or at least it used to be. When I called games that was an ejection. It is a good way to get a broken nose too. Really? Totally legal in the early 80s in high school

I didn't do it because that was not the natural way to slide for me. By the time I got through with college and started calling games, it was a no-no. I even saw a few kids get ejected for it. The only leeway the rule allowed as I recall was for diving back to a bag.

To me it was always easier to run so fast you never had to slide You must have had a lot of fast teammates then. **************************************************** I broke my wrist sliding into 2nd and I have seen several fingers broke from sliding. Sissy or not I understand the mittens or guards.
