I picked up an old guy once and he had a shotgun that I didn't see until I had stopped. He showed me it was unloaded and I drove him a few miles to his house. He was a nice guy and very appreciative. That was probably 15-20 years ago and was the last time I stopped for a hitch hiker.

If my step dad could tell you his story you wouldn’t. He is a truck driver. Picked up one years ago and burned him with cigarettes and threw a butcher knife at him In an abandoned house for a day. He was rescued when a couple stopped to fool around. The guy had gone to a store when they stopped. He had told my step dad he was going to kill him when he got back

I've never seen a "hot" hitchhiker in my entire life.

Well, you have to use the "hitchhiker scale" when judging them.

A few years ago during the winter one night it was cold as hell. Bumper-to-bumper traffic on 65 south at green springs there was an older Caucasian male in a wheelchair trying to change his tire. I passed him and then backed up and helped him change the tire. He asked me if there’s anything he could do for me. I said hell just give me a call sometime and we’ll chat. I gave him Troxs phone number . True story.

Hell to the no! If someone is broke down, I will stop and see if they need help. If they are elderly or smoking hot.

I had an amazing employee who became one of my closest life friends that started a website dedicated to hitchhiking. I found it very bizarre at first but over time I came.to admire him for it in ways.

Slow times of the year he would grab his backpack and start walking, working along the way doing anything people.needed for rides and food. He would leave for a month or so and just explore.

Didn't care a bit about material things, never asked for a hand out. Most ethical honest man I have ever known in my life and would do anything to help anyone.

No drugs, no alcohol and highly educated..just thought about life and what he needed in simple terms...happiest kindest gentle man I've ever known also.

He passed away very young (mid 30s) from a very rare type of cancer that caught him and everyone by surprise.

In those short years he impacted so many people positively and left a life impression on everyone I know who met him.

Some of them are simply wandering and exploring.

Every once in a while amazing people enter your life in the strangest ways.

*I didn't pick him up hitchhiking , one of my closest friends did because he noticed the boots he was wearing & the backpack he was carrying and that something was simply different, and then brought him to my old shop for a few days work. He stayed for a few years and made one of the greatest impacts any one ever has on.my life and the judgements I made of people on appearances and perceived circumstances.

Buddy of mine and I were going to a car show at OWA the other week. Saturday morning. He said there is a guy in the ditch back there on a motorized scooter. I said I thought it was a guy on a red mower, but let's go back and make sure. Deep ditch. Turns out this guy had bailed off the side of the road. riding a scooter, he's a paraplegic, avoiding a semi and had been stuck for an hour, dead battery, cell phone dead, couldn't plug the phone in. It took my friend and me and an Amazon delivery guy who also stopped to push him out of the sand, out of the ditch, and into the shade close to his house so he could recharge his phone and wait for his people. I was thankful to have been there to help. I knew how he felt being stuck with a dead battery in the sand. In a ditch. Helpless. I had a guy, carpenter from Nazareth pull me out of a similar situation once, too.
