Didn't think we would have beaten Vandy next anyway. May be better to go this route. Got to get some offense

Didn't State leave the bases loaded 3 or so times?

I believe N2 is a State fan, and is basically saying that what State pulled off by leaving so many runner on base doesn't happen often.

The decision to pull Fitts and replace him with Burns, reminded me of Malzhan trying to play Kerryon Johnson against Georgia in the SEC Championship game. What did Burns and Johnson have in common??? They were injured!!! Why pull Fitts who had completely shut their offense down, to go with the injured "ace"? That is a Gus Malzhan move right there. Pitiful.

Damn if I wouldn't stake Frenchie out, or hobble him.
I figured by the end of the season, he would crowhop
all the way to first base and hand the ball to the
first baseman.
But he did hit!!

Burns' dad and brother apparently whooped up on two men and a woman at a campground last year.

ironically, butch was our (ms state) pitching coach before taking the hc job at AU.

the hero certainly became the heel...3 runs driven in, but the 2 errors in the 9th ultimately lost the game. reach out and tag the runner, game over and the dawgs go to the loser's bracket...the base runner helped a bit by stutter stepping, bracing for the tag, which made the Canadian take an extra shuffle before throwing over the first baseman. same with next throw...too many shuffles before throwing and the runner beat out the throw. this loss is solidly on the 3rd baseman.

I agree the 3rd baseman messed up and made a bad throw, but saying he should have tagged the runner is wrong. You always go for the force out. Can you imagine if he had tried to tag the runner and not been able to? People would've been howling about how stupid he was to try that.

the commentators agreed with the throw to first being the correct action, due to the greater possibility of losing the ball with a barehanded tag (as opposed to ball in glove tag).

I think the best argument i've heard is he should have just stopped and stood in base path. If runner left base path, hes out. If he didn't leave base path, he would run right into him, hes out.

Worse case, runner stops and you have a run down situation between 2nd and 3rd

The baserunner was two feet from him. You block his path or tag the runner, period, no matter what "the book" says. That was an incredibly stupid, phucked-up decision that ultimately cost them the game.

But, as good ol' Coarch Thompson said, "we were just one play away."

THAT. WAS. THE. DAMNED. PLAY.
