Finishing up a kitchen refresh and need to get a plumber/gasfitter to extend gas line about 30' to the stove location. Anybody done this lately and have a ballpark idea of reasonable cost? Or plumbing experts to chime in? Steel vs Copper vs Flex/Trackpipe?

I used 1/2 copper tubing and flare fittings to run mine. Copper tubing isn't cheap though.

Yeah, but less labor than black iron makes the overall cost lower. I don't plan on DIY'ing the gas line, just trying to figure out how bad I'm going to be sticker shocked.

If nothing in the kitchen is currently gas.... Too many variable to give you a definitive answer such as how far is it from the meter, the size of the lines, etc.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Who is your gas provider? I wouldn't use Dixie or Benjamin Franklin for the job. Heard they are high

Trackpipe was a fad and most inspectors around bham wont pass it anymore.. Without looking, gas is hard to throw a # out because of variables.

Do you have high pressure gas in the house? What does the line already feed that your tying the stove into? Gotta figure BTUs so nothing is starved out

I got 1 1/4 black iron coming in feeding furnace and water heater. Should have plenty of BTU at the meter.

Definitely use black iron and get a good plumber to take care of it. Like was said above, Benjamin Franklin ain't one of em. 😀

I have a couple of good plumber/fitters to call, just trying to get a SWAG for what's reasonable before I get one in here.

Current run to furnace and water heater is about 20', the line also tees off for a gas dryer that is no longer in use.

Seems like most folks are doing it in flares copper these days, labor on black iron is about 2x.

Don’t forget you probably still need an outlet for the stove.

It'll be low pressure if its 1"1/4 coming in the house... Was trying to figure if it will need a regulator or not

I spent $200 to have mine done. All copper lines currently in house. Found a guy that was retired from gas company that does stuff on the side. Of course I didn’t pull a permit and no inspection

Yeah, I don't need a permit or inspection either. So far my quotes are around $700 to run 30' of copper pipe. I took the wrong path out of high school apparently.

No copper inside a wall. Black iron or galvanized # of burners determines pipe size.

If I ever replace my stove/move/build I will have a dual fuel setup with gas cooktop and electric oven. A gas oven heats the kitchen WAY up.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
