Thinking about planting next year, What the cost per acre for seed/fertilizer ect...? Not counting land and equipment..

For a food plot I could make $150 per acre to do it right. Do it halfass for less. But I’ll let the pros tell you. They’ll know much better what it really costs and how much better it can be done

That’s why I gave you $150. Row crop cost per acre is $350 per acre or right around that.

I would think it depends on the number of feeders per acre and if they are troughs or spinners!!!! Go on perch 🖕😉

They’ll know much better what it really costs and how much better it can be done I can help with that. Cheap nwtf seed in the key to being thrifty. Seems like I paid $40 for the last bag I got, and that will do 2 acres, so $20 per acre for seed. Gonna need 3 bags T17, so maybe $40 for that. Then 2 bags of some form of N, so $25 more added in leaves $85 for seed and fertilizer. Tractor cost = free, it's already under the shed, so why count it? Ditto on diesel and gly. So I've done it for way less than 257. And then the deer will eat every grain of it 2 weeks after it matures, and it's all gone before bow season even starts. I will let someone else do this. Good luck with it .

Do it half arse $150ish per acre like 257 said. You aren't growing it for money it cost a lot more money for those extra 20 bushel an acre. For food plots that ain't necessary. If you are farming for money you have come to the wrong forum and need to abort this thread ASAP.

Ive had different results than the preacher. It costs me around $125/acre I guess, but like he said I already have the equipment and chemicals. I enjoy the work so were not going to charge for that. I put out 200lb/acre fertilizer at planting, 200lb ammonia nitrate when its kneehigh, my ground is apparently poorer than his. I get really good production and my deer density is not what 257 has so my corn lasts all season. I was joking about the tractor, fuel and gly being free. Add all that in, and use recommended amounts of fertilizer, and the estimate 257 gave was very close. But I wasn't joking about the deer cleaning it up even before bow season. I have found that the first year I grow it they don't know what it is and it will take them a while to get started. The second year they start sooner, and the third year they are lined up and waiting for it. And since I was planting it for doves, that was not the desired outcome. But wait several years until all those deer are dead, and you can start the cycle over. I have been through the cycle twice using RR corn and don't plan to ever do it again.

That's a sound philosophy for wildlife plots and it's what I've always tried to do. There is no point in trying to make max yield on any wildlife plot; you can make 80% yield and spend a fraction of the money. The wildlife will never know the difference.
