We just recently purchased an older home that needs a little TLC inside and out. The front yard and back yard have azalea bushes all over the place and I want to remove them. Would you recommend pulling them up with a truck/tractor or having a guy come over with a mulcher and mulch them all to the ground. Half of the back yard is taken up by these over grown azalea bushes and I want to clear the area out and lay down some sod.

Thannks

I pulled some old azalea bushed out with my truck once. It isn't as easy as you would thing. Those suckers have some serious roots when they get old.

I’d say just mulch em and kill the root system. Be a lot of holes left to smooth up.

A friend, the Bible and a banker will get you though about anything.

I have pulled them out with a winch on a truck before. If you mulch them you have to kill the roots or they will come back quicker than you think the will. I have cut old established plants down to ground level and mowed over them and a year later they are back about 2 feet high.

Yep. My BIL wasn't happy with the ruts I left in his yard as well.

If you mulch them you need to spray the area to or they will be coming back.

But if he sprays something that will kill the roots, won't it be hard to plant sod there successfully?

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
