IMHO, it has less to do with who is now buying boats, and more to do with what today's boats are currently capable of compared to the past. 20 years ago, the only guy doing 60+ was the guy who was a gear head/speed nut and able to tune his boat up for speed, or the semi-pro bass fishing guy. 95% of everyone else was 40mph or less WOT. Now it seems all boats are 50+.

Well the speed limit is 70 on most highways. So boats should only be able to go that fast by your logic. MOST aren’t going that fast on the water and making the others that can/do go that fast won’t change anything. And hell this guy was going 62 at the fastest of his run. That’s under the legal speed limit for cars.

its been a long time, but I feel like you just checked a box if you wanted motorcycle and vessel added to your license. Maybe there was some test.

Agree.

There aren't many boats out there today that run a legit 70+ mph.

I've always said that the heaviest thing in the world you can add to a boat is a gps. Lots of folks claim their boat will run XX (or XXX) mph...until a gps is thrown in the boat.

Motorcycle...yes.

Never been that way for vessel, though. There's been a test required since the law came into being, unless you were old enough to be exempt. I think you had to be 40+ years old in 1994 to be exempt.

Yep, people think they are going way faster than they are.

I am 50, never took the test, but have my V on my license. Always been there as long as I remember. May have gotten it when I was a teenager working at Buck's Boats, don't remember.

I'm 51 and had to take the test at the license comm office just like for the driver license. I do remember studying to take the test.

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

First question is what kind of janky @#$@ bass boat was that??? Nothing about the design even looked familiar, and NO bass boat should be that unstable. Not that I would try, but you can take these new Skeeters and literally blow them out into a power slide running WOT. That guy was doing, what, 60-something MPH in a mild corner in what looked like smooth water (just a minor wind chop is all I saw). There's a lot of bass boats that are basically like riding a 2x12 down the lake, they have NO handling, and I won't ever figure out why folks buy them....they'll run 80+ MPH in a straight line, but you basically have to come to a stop, turn where you want to go, then take off again.

Second question isn't a question, it's more of an observation.... based on the back n forth hand gestures, and the white poles, I'm assuming the driver wasn't familiar with the lake (but the passenger was) and he was trying not to get out of the channel (what I assume the pipes marked). He should've slowed down IF that was the case. If you're familiar with riding in a quality brand, large bass boat, then you'll know that 60-ish MPH isn't very fast feeling even in large wakes.

I almost have to wonder if there was some sort of mechanical failure (violent steering breakage) or they hit a stump or something (since it looked like he panicked about being on the wrong side of that white pole). That was VERY unusual behavior for a bass boat.

We were on the edge of Eternia, when the power of Greyskull began to take hold.
