They are the same ones bragging about there kid fishing or killing deer. I have noticed an annoying/disturbing trend the last few years...............Suddenly, there are a lot of kids that are "killing their 1st deer" at 4 or 5yrs old. These are kids that struggle to hold a nerf gun and there's no way they can shoot a rifle, even a youth one. I personally know of more than one situation where dad or granddad has shouldered and aimed the rifle and had little Jimmy reach over and pull the trigger. Then they go posting tons of pics of little Jimmy and "his first deer" all over facebook so they can one-up their buddies whose kid didn't kill one until he was 7 or 8. It's a damn epidemic. And it's not just dishonest and irritating and stupid, it's dangerous and teaching/encouraging unsafe gun-handling.

GomerJr asked me why he couldn't do that if we saw a deer. I told him he can shoot his first deer when he's physically capable of holding the gun (on a rest), aiming it and shooting it on his own, and that it would mean a lot more to him when he was older, than me holding it and just letting him reach over and touch the trigger. I blame social media

That may have been a little much but i started at 14. But by then I knew the woods and didn't need help. I've taken my son starting at 8 and I'm not too proud of that. He can't even skin his own squirrel at this point cause we've only gone a few times. I guess I'm raising a city Hunter, but by the conversions on here he'll have a lot of company.

There's a big difference in taking them with you, and letting them reach over and tap the trigger of the gun you're holding and aiming, and telling everyone "he killed his first deer."

Youth season doesn't define an age. huh? according to Outdooralabama.com: "Youth" refers to children who have not reached their 16th birthday. At age 16, all hunters must purchase a hunting license.

But then again, if I decide to shoot a deer in my back yard tonight. I will. And I don't care how chuck feels about it.

Why any kid would play any sport at 5-6 is beyond me They actually run a 3 year old league here. I just smile and shake my head.
