I've had a great place to catch big bluegills for many years, but the pond owner decided to up the rent to $1200 a year per person.

It's simply too much for me to pay at my age, no more than I'm able to go fishing.

Anyone know of a good place to catch some good sized bluegills?

I live in the central part of the state, but have truck... will travel.

Thanks

1200/yr. for Bluegills??? I'd bail too.
I had an awesome place yanked out from under me
several years back. Some of the best fishing I've ever
had.

It was good bass fishing too, but I like the big bluegills better.

Are you all keeping the bluegills on these smaller bodies of water or catch and release? We don't allow keeping of bluegills/bream on our 26 acre pond.

Not being nosey, but why all "catch and release" for the bluegills?

Because that is the primary food source for the bass.

I'd have a biologist look at the ratio.
We were bigtime bream heavy and were told
to get 10 lbs.per acre out of the lake. Later,
we got a ratio count and were told we had
merely held our on.
I believe I'd check the ratio. (just suggestion).

Foster Farms in Perry county has several different lakes for $250 a year, I believe it is. They have bass, bream, crappie and some catfish. Donovan Lakes fishing club is more exclusive at $1000 per year and everything from catfish to big bass, bream and trout stockings in some ponds. Both are just a few miles from Marion off Hwy. 5.

American Sportfish told me at the time I stocked my pond that the bluegill never need thinning and its best to not remove any but to take X amount of medium sized Bass per year. Guess it depends on if you want a big bass pond or a big bluegill pond.

That probably depends on whether the pond was bluegill crowded or bass crowded to start with. I doubt that rule stands as the pond reaches equilibrium again.

That's a good way to ruin a good bream pond by overpopulation. I am speaking from experience
