I'd have to see the DNA on that bird before I'd believe it is a true wild bird from Wilcox Co. I've killed a LOT of Wilcox gobblers, don't remember any over 19 pounds by me or anyone I knew around there. We killed a lot of 14-16 pound mature gobblers back then.

22 pounds, and even 26 pounds are a hell of a long way from 32 pounds in turkey weights.

Biggest gobbler I ever killed weighed 23.5 and is also the only one with 1.5" spurs, and he came from Wilcox Co. I don't remember ever seeing a bigger one that someone else killed. I don't believe wild turkeys in Wilcox Co are gonna get a whole lot bigger than that one.

Considering that a 32 lb tame turkey is not at all unusual, well, draw your own conclusions.

When I was in HS, I saw a gobbler in Coy that probably weighed 32 lbs. And he was free ranging, though only about 100 yds from a house, and had a bunch of chickens around him. I passed. smile

Hard to believe in Alabama . I seen some in Indiana last year deer hunting that were no doubt 25-27 lb Easterns.

I’ve never seen an Alabama turkey that weighed over 23 pounds. Seen a good many from other states that did though.

I have killed a 24# Alabama gobbler, and prolly 20 at 20-21# over the years. I killed a 22# Osceola gobbler near Lake Ocochobee, 2nd largest in Fl at the time.

I have also killed a 12.5# gobbler with a 10" beard and 1" spurs...not skinny either just a runt.

32# and there is a mad farmer somewhere looking for his turkey. I guy I know entered a 35# bird in the old, old Woods and Waters contest, followed an hour later by a farmer looking for him and his tame bird......

In 2016 4 of the birds I killed were all between 22-24 lbs. only time that’s ever happened. A 36 would look like a coop grip spur walking thru the woods.

Your scales needed calibrating.

We ya e land in Jackson county where 19-21lbs is fairly common , used to hunt a place in south al that a 19 lbr would have been a record . Killed quite a few mature birds that only weighed 16-17 lbs .

30-something lb bird is probably the equivalent of a 500lb whitetail.

Not true at all. Buddy of mines clients and himself in NE Kansas has killed several 28-32lb birds over the years. No he dont need to calibrate his scales either...lol

That's a different thing altogether when you talk about Midwest turkeys.

I haven't heard of any that big in bama. I actually question half the entries in Turkey contest. Seems like every bama bird killed weighs 20+lbs these days.

Been at it a long time and weighed a LOT of birds. I am skeptical of some of these weights in Alabama but if it makes you happy, carry on.

I was turkey hunting in Cherokee County one year and got out of the truck on an old logging road and I swear there was an adult Emu standing in front of me ( no joke, an actual Emu ). If I wouldn't have had two other people with me they would have thought I was losing it. There was an Emu farm about 5 miles down the road, I guess he escaped. No joke he looked 6 foot tall and around 100 pounds. Not gonna lie, for a split second I reached for my gun.

FTR all my birds were weighed on IGFA certified scales. I didn't weight the Emu......

I didn't see you throwing out them 25 pound plus numbers. Your weights agreed with what I have witnessed. 18 pounds being a good sized bird in Wilcox county. BTW, does an Emu have spurs?

I don't know about Emu spurs but they will damn for sure peck the crap out of you if you let em get too close.

OlTimer , we hunted east side of Wilcox( Furman area) a lot and rarely killed a bird over 17 pounds, and a lot of them weighed 14-16 pounds, with thin long spurs and thin beards.

I got knocked out cold by a loose 2x4 on day as we drove into Oak Hill. I woke up in a white draped bed in a nice house right on the road, with an angel in white standing by the bed. Thought I was dead and had gone to heaven . Would of been about 1970-71 when I was 19-20 years old.

location makes a LOT of difference. When I hunted between Bham and Leeds prolly half the birds we killed were 19-20 pounds, very rarely anything under 18 pounds.

I killed a gobbler this year that had a broken leg. It was cracked on the front side right in front of his spur. I had seen him a couple of times before and he always was with another gobbler hobbling around. I decided I was going to do everything I could to kill him for my 5th bird.

I got lucky one morning late in April and set up right under them. I had the healthy bird come straight in sitting there strutting, but I had seen ol hop along coming too. He finally made it over to me and I rolled him. His buddy then proceeded to jump all over him as he flopped. Poor bird didnt weigh but 13lbs 4oz. He was the smallest bird I've ever killed. I feel confident I spared him from dying to a yote or cat before next spring
