I can with 100% confidence tell you that... NCIS is not like that at all.

And as a side note...

Jack Reacher is not what MP's are like.

Sorry for the dose of reality, but as much as I would love to lose myself in the fantasy of those type TV shows and movies, it is difficult to know what I know and watch those with any sense of realism.

So you think Gunsmoke was realistic?

i don't know. I didn't serve in the old West.

However I have read "The Life of John Wesley Hardin" and honestly, I think Gunsmoke was kind of tame.

John Wesley Hardin was a badass.

Enlighten us Irish, what are MP's and NCIS really like? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well most that I met were OK dudes and gals I guess, but they weren't like those two particular shows depict them.

But then, I never did anything stupid when I was in, so I never got thrown in the brig. If I was ever hauled in, I might have a different opinion.

I know about both institutions. In the Army, you have MP's, MPI(investigators) and CID. CID is the equivalent to NCIS. They investigate felonies. The Military is very different from Civil police. Anytime you enter a base, fort or installation you are subject to search and seizure without a search warrant. Any time a civilian is arrested on Gov't property they are turned over to the FBI. It seemed at least twice a week MP's were involved in violent situations.
Fistfights, brawls with drugged, drunk or crazy soldiers. On Fort Benning, there were also soldiers from foreign countries that spoke little English. That made duty very interesting, to say the least.

Look, Tom Cruise already ruined the movies. I don’t need you ruining the books.

Is that one of those SUV crime drama Acronym shows? Not sure why they chose NICSUV , always seemed odd to me.

I've had the unfortunate experience of actually being included in an NCIS investigation.
From my experience (and I've only seen the show a couple of times) it was absolutely nothing like the Hollywood version. But then, nothing really is.

I watch NCIS nawlins just to see the landmarks and say hey I've been there! But it makes me think at times even though I know it's Hollywood. Like I quit clipping my finger and toe nails in a hotel room thinking that one of two things might happen. After I check out a murder might be committed the next day so the crime scene unit finds a toenail in the ceiling light fixture and the DNA test shows it belongs to me. Or the maid goes digging in the garbage and kills her husband and then places one of my fingernails by the body and claims that she and I hooked up and I wanted her all to myself so I took him out. Seems crazy but it could happen. lol

I have 2 vendors that may be as close to that as possible (in an earlier life). One was Mossad and the other was an officer in Shin Bet. They may be about 60 years old now but someone would be making a mistake screwing with either of them.

Exactly.... so many films and TV shows get it wrong

Lone Survivor.... sorry

Zero Dark Thirty..... nope

12 Strong..... wrong again

Those are only the ones I can speak to with actual first hand knowledge. Not what someone told me or what I heard.

Blackhawk Down...... way off from what I’ve been told by the survivors.

It’s amazing when you’re in and these ops go down you’re put under NDA but Hollywood finds out just enough of the details to screw up a truly heroic story each time.

Sumpter, I know what you are saying but, NCIS and Mp's are law enforcement Mossad and Shin Bet are Intelligence and Security organizations. Their equivalents here would be the CIA and Secret Service respectively.
