twaldrop4 OP 10 point Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 3,227 Central Al	Okay so I’m pretty sure this is a barred owl but there were 3 of them in the woods behind the house tonight. They were not very big but they were making a screeching sound. They don’t look like screech owls but I have never heard them make this sound. I have it on recording if I can figure out how to upload it. I wonder if they are young owls. I hooted at them and they did not like it. I assumed it was so the momma can keep up with them after they start flying around a bit. They have been nesting in my back yard for years now. You haven't been blocked until you've been flock blocked!!!

When I opened the door to the house an owl came flying straight at me. Couldn’t have missed my head by more than an inch. I think I hit 1 rung on the ladder on the way down. By the way that was the nastiest shooting house ever

Evidently they do it to communicate with their mom as they’re learning how to fly. These 3 wouldn’t fly they’d kind jump from limb to limb. Pretty cool.
