We need to stop buying all this cheap inferior crap made in China.
We need to make tariffs so high no one will be able to buy their cheap useless crap.
And we will start making our own, and wages and wealth will rise as a result.
No more $750 BILLION a year of our money going to China, it will stay here and circulate here.

I tend to agree with you, but cost of living would go way up too. Big time.

That's not exactly how it works on the tariff.
The importer... only some of which are U.S. based companies (who may still be owned by China, BTW), a lot of which are direct Chinese companies...
They either pay the tariff and/or cut their operating costs to remain competitive, source the product from outside China, ask China for a discount to offset the tariff, etc.
. That's exactly how it works on the tariff. The exporter doesn't pay any tariff, the importer does; all three of those options you provide do not eliminate the importer paying the tariff. That's what people don't understand. Yep... that is what I said. Only..... there is NOT a 1 to 1 relationship between the dollar amount of the tariffs and an increase in retail prices.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

The increase in national wealth vs. increase in cost for some cheap plastic crap made in China is negligible in terms of winning this trade war. It is like a 5:1 trade off. Manufacturing builds wealth. That is how China has built its wealth. How England and Europe and Japan built its wealth. And our country. We just need to get things back under the control of a fair and equal arrangement. Here is another good read on this situation: https://www.nationalreview.com/2019...omic-military-technological-superiority/

Many of you anticipate that we'll continue to buy from China. We buy from them because they are cheap. When they aren't, we'll find another source. Simple as that. It might be a great thing if china kept their cheap junk and the US started making some stuff for ourselves. Im sick of chinese junk, id rather pay two prices for "made in the usa" and skip having to do the job again in a month. No telling how much time ive wasted on chinese junk.
