When dad passed away, my brother was going to get dad's johnboat because he lives on a lake in Louisiana. He decided this week to buy a new boat big enough for his daughter to ski behind so I get the johnboat. It's a 1642 and got a 2010 20hp Honda, trolling motor, fishfinder with some kind of GPS and some other stuff that Dad had tricked out for striper fishing on Lake Martin. I don't think it's been in the water in a couple of years but he was meticulous about getting it serviced. My question is, other than a new battery, should I have a mechanic service it, blow out the fuel lines, ect or is that something I can do with some fresh gas? What do I need to do to get this thing ready for the water? It's been 30 years since I've had to mess with a boat so I'm relearning. Thanks!

Put some muffs on it and see if it will crank

Take it somewhere. Honda carbs are the trickiest there are. If they are gummed up, it needs to be someone that knows what they are doing. If it's a little stopped up, it could burn up the motor. Almost guarantee the main fuel line to bad. If it's fuel injected, you may get by with just changing the fuel line. If it doesn't run right, take it out, don't keep pushing it.
