I am new to the sunflower stuff, as i have always just used browntop. Gonna do a big sunflower strip in the middle of all my browntop this year. What kind of sunflower seed should I buy? Some of the stuff I’ve read says peredovik and some says black oil sunflowers. Cadre ready sunflowers were also recommended

Any advice on sunflowers for dove is appreciated.

I always bought a 50lb bag of bird seed sunflowers and planted them and they came up great. Bought them at Walmart or the co-op, they were the black oil variety. Had nice big heads on them. If you have many deer, they may not make it, because deer love young sunflower plants.

Peredoviks are a black oil sunflower.

Better plant a LOT if you have any deer at all. They will wipe them out.

Few years back I had 2 acres of the prettiest sunflowers all blooming out in a field with browntop and sesame. Thought they had made it. 2 weeks later every head was gone. Last time I planted sunflowers.

Now just plant browntop and proso millet and sorghum.

We tried planting several years in a row using two row planter. Had about five acres and the deer hit them about four-five inches high and completely wiped them out. We switched to brown top millet and evnr planted sesame for two years. Deer left both of these alone. All depends on the deer density, as Strictlybow said.

Absolutely wrapped up with deer at this place. Was thinking about trying to fence these in to keep the deer out. Planning on about 5 acres of sunflower, and 5 acres of browntop or dove proso millet
