I started low carb (semi-low carb anyway, under 40-50 carbs a day) and I’ve lost 10 lbs this week. I’m kinda shocked. I know it’ll slow down but the diet hadn’t been bad. I’ve eaten bacon and eggs, prime rib, a couple salads, a lot of green beans, grilled shrimp, grilled chicken, hamburger steaks, cheese, pork rinds and a Publix bacon wrapped, cream cheese stuffed chicken. Drinks have been water, Powerade Zero and a little unsweetened tea today. I’ve had a bit of Paleo mixed in I guess because I’ve had a few grapes from time to time. Calories have been down as well as carbs.

If it ain’t meat, cheese, or green vegetables, don’t eat it(General rule of thumb, but some nuts and nut butters are ok). I know this sounds gay, but go to Pinterest and search for recipes. It’ll give you more than you could ever try or get here. I did it in college and lost 30lbs. Haven’t had a problem keeping it off. The first week sucks, but you get used to it.

I did South Beach diet, it's low carb not no carb, and lost 50 pounds that have been relatively easy to keep off for almost 2 years.

On South Beach, you basically do Induction (full keto) for 2 weeks then gradually phase in small amounts of good carbs. More variety of foods than full keto diet and easy to keep up with.

Been fixing steamed broccoli, rotisserie chicken and the Jalapeno Palmetto Cheese as a quick lunch. Quick and easy plus good.

I’ve lost ten pounds in two weeks eating if I can pick it, pull it, milk it or shoot it then I’ll eat it. I also eat around 2,000 calories a day plus walk over ten thousand steps. I track it all on the lose it app. Plus drink water and black coffee some unsweetened tea. Good luck!

I should have added that I also try and avoid artificial sweetners.

The only sports drink that I’ll drink are sweetened with Stevia. It’s made from the stevia leaf extract and organic cane sugar. No laboratory man made chemicals.

Vitamin Water Zero. Several flavors, no artificial sweeteners. The lemonade is great, mix it with unsweet tea for an Arnold Palmer.

I love the Vitamin Water Zero. You can buy a 20 pack at Sam’s for $15.00. They costed around $2.00 a piece at the mini marts. That’s under 80 cents a piece for you barners. grin

Buy some lemons, cut one in quarters and add to water. Easy, natural. Water doesn't have any flavor, or shouldn't, unless you're near a sewage plant or down in Florida.

Low carb is a great way to lose weight. I do not think that most people who think they are in ketosis, really are.

I bought a ketone monitor a while back and started playing with what foods I could eat to stay in ketosis. The breakdown was basically that I had to eat 70% of my calories from fat, lots of olive oil, macadamia nuts and butter. If I ate more than about 1 egg, 1/2 can sardines and a 3-4 Oz piece of meat per day I will not stay in ketosis.

This is variable for different people but gluconeogenesis from protein will not allow you to stay in ketosis.

I like to eat meat to much to stay on a ketotic diet, so I've sort of gone off of it. I will intermittently fast for 24 hrs or so and I can kick myself into starvation ketosis at the end of that fast.

Ticka that's interesting. I'm going to pick up some ketosis strips today. I thought I did good yesterday and for breakfast but with what you're saying I'm no closer to ketosis than I was when I decided to start on Wednesday. Eating 70% fat is gonna be hard to do w/o eating lots of meat or eggs. I had 5 eggs, topped with parmesean cheese, fried in about 2 tablespoons of olive oil for breakfast. I'm gonna have to read more about this or I'm gonna wind up gaining weight.

Another thing... So far, I have been more focused on eating no carbs and high fat. I have noticed that digesting lots of fat is rough on a fellow. LOL Getting the meat sweats.

I cut out rice, potatoes, pasta and wheat flour on March 1st. I have lost (as of yesterday) 26 pounds. I have not excercised or done anything except cut those foods from my diet. I really love bread and that has been my biggest hurdle. But it has gotten easier.

I grill a lot of fish, chicken and pork. Grill vegetables. I will eat some fruit (berries) but avoid apples. I still drink a few beers on weekends. It has not been difficult. I was 293 on 1-3-19 and just tried to watch my portion sizes, and my 3-1-19 I had only lost 9 pounds. So I decided to cut the white carbs and the weight has fallen off much faster. My goal is to get to 225, and I will allow myself to eat those carbs one day a week. If I can maintain my weight then I will keep doing that, but if I gain I will go to one cheat meal every 2 weeks or month. Whatever it takes to stay at 225.

I get a lot of recipes from https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/g3593/low-carb-recipes/

Another recipe I make is 1 large onion, 1 pound conecuh browned in skillet then add 1/2 head of chopped cabbage, 1 can hot rotel, salt, pepper and Tonys. Let it simmer for 20 minutes or so. It is awesome.

I also make "Pizza" my crust is 4 eggs and 3 cups low moistrue shredded cheese. Mix and bake for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown, then cover with pizza sauce (mine is homemade) and add ham, pepperoni, onions, bell peppers, jalapenos and bake again for 10-15 more minutes. It isnt real crust, but sorta like a thin crust pizza. Its not horrible.

I would cut the carbs but dont go crazy with high fat. I try to eat few carbs but the other foods I eat should be healthy. I will eat fried foods but not every day. I try to be sensible...
