Does anyone know what this weed is? What would be the best way to eliminate this from my pond? Would grass carp eat this or is a chemical needed? My pond is only about a half acre. So far the weed is only covering about 1500 square feet but doubled in size since last year.

That is actually variable leaf pondweed. And yes grass carp will eat it. 1/2 acre probably need about 8 or so

Wait a minute, with leaves as big as what you are holding, not pondweed. The pics in the water look like pondweed but the big leaves in your hand look like something else

I think I should fertilize this pond but am guessing if I do it now , my weeds will take off. Am I right to get the weeds gone before fertilizing. I have also been looking at some chemicals online that are not restricted use pesticides. After Leghorn suggested it looked like pond weed but larger I looked at some examples. It looks like to me it might be large leaf pond weed.. Does this sound right to y’all. Has anybody used chemicals on this weed that did a good job without hurting the fish?

The healthier and faster something is growing, the easier a herbicide will kill it. I’d fertilize now and spray soon.

Ok, if the leaves are only 2” then yes, probably pondweed. Carp will eat it up and keep it gone. Shoot me a pm if you are interested in help
