Awesome video....must've been some dust in here or something, eyes got watery. Also Dave must've upgraded cameras. Looked like some Planet Earth footage of those gens up close.

So one question I have after having watched all of last season's hunts...........there was more than 1 video where he killed a bird that morning before work, then the video cuts forward to that night (dark outside) where he's cleaning the bird. So, how long after killing one can you safely wait before cleaning it? Can one assume he's putting the bird in a cooler on ice or in an outside fridge or something?

He’s probably putting it on ice. I like cleaning one as quick as I can. It makes getting that slim and sliverskin off easier.

We have a chest freezer on the back porch where I work. If I kill one before work I’ll throw it in there and then clean it when I get home. 6-7 hours in that freezer the head and neck will be froze solid but the breast and leg meat will just be starting to get a little stiff. Makes them easier (for me) to clean by far.

There have been a couple times on hot days that I’ve field dressed one and stuck a frozen 2 liter bottle in the body cavity but that is a stinky job

Turkeys bake in the sun all day alive everyday and their meat is fine when we kill em. I dont think half a day is gonna hurt it. Same with deer their meat is usually kept warm by the animal anyway

They shouldn't complain about people being all over them. It's by there own doing and it'll only get worse the more they film. Loose lips sink ships - old as time except YouTube has a bigger audience than your local coffee shop.

Really didn't take that as complaining, just commenting on how many people were there. Rhe only time you'll really hear them complain is when someone knowingly comes moving in on them instead of giving them space.

On the lag time to cleaning. I am a big proponent of doing it as quick as possible. Especially if it is above 70-75 degrees. If you have to wait, sticking ice in the body cavity is what I do. For those that haven't, it is real easy just cut around the anus and pull everything out. Insert ice.

I don't pluck them anymore (haven't in 20 years) and it only takes about 5 minutes to clean one and have it in zip locks in a cooler. So why wait? I only save the breasts, thighs, and drumsticks.

There is a reason many people won't eat wild game and a lot of it has to do with poor preparation and handling.

I agree with you Gomer. To walk in over two hours to kill a turkey really defines their passion. Not to mention a good portion of it is walking through probably knee deep water.

Big Cypress is no secret. The difficulty in hunting it is well known too. That hunt was as real as it gets, loved it!

I eluded to this last year...hunting national forests is the “thing” to do now. It’s become quite fashionable to let everyone know about it, too.

There are going to be folks following you around and sniping spots. With as many locations as I figured out though my limited knowledge of the place by watching the videos I’m sure that locals or others who hunt it a lot figured out even more locations. It’ll make for more competition I’m sure but they can still kill birds and may not even be hunting the same areas as last year. I know for a fact they are not just hunting cypress though.

Enough people were traveling to hunt before the hunting public and pinhoti project. Now it’s on the verge of becoming a fad....duck hunting has been about ruined by the same. Turkey hunting is a holy thing..... more travelin hunters and competition on a somewhat dwindling resource isn’t good

Fad hunters won't stick with it more than 1 or 2 hunts when they figure out how much work is involved in killing a turkey, particularly on public land. Not many people are willing to put in 2 or 3 miles, before sunrise, only to get skunked. 1 or 2 tough hunts coming up empty handed, they'll be hitting the lake from then on.

Correct. But it takes a few years to draw some of the areas they've hunted. Pretty sure he quit showing 'real' imagery after I PM'd him about a FL spot last yr. I'd hunted the exact same spot a couple years prior.

And yup, the 'fad hunters' won't stick with it. And the turkey killers are going to kill regardless of the pressure.
