I haven't had chickens since I was a kid but we started our flock this past weekend. Got a dozen bovan brown pullets from Tractor Supply to get started with. I'll probably go back eventually and get a dozen straight run game chicks to run around the yard. The baby loves her "ducks" already

Coosa1 SOA Professional Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 4,588 Coosa County, AL	We have an existing coop/pen on our place from the last people who lived here. Looks to be pretty sturdy. The fence is 8' chain link that looks to go down into the ground a ways with 2x8s all along the bottom and top and mesh netting over the top of the whole pen. And the coop is completely wrapped in tin. Only thing is, the coop is just an open front so if something was to get into the pen they'd be goners. I may look into putting the last wall on the coop so that I can shut them up in there at night.
