So I have nothing better to do than come on here and fuss. After finally getting in on the wait queue it transferred me to a person and ended the call. I am trying again. Daughters refund was supposed to be in my checking account on the 22nd. IRS says to wait till the 27th if it doesn't show to call them. Called them last night got through and talked to a woman. Confirmed account numbers said it was deposited on the 22nd to contact the bank. Called the bank and they have no record of it being sent to the bank. So here I am on hold again and fully expect to get hung up on again. Daughter can't call because she is at work (thank God) and can't use her phone at work. Since it is her first week at this job she needs to keep her nose clean anyway. I fully expect to be hung up on again after a 30 minute wait. Or they tell me she will have to call even though I have all the info. I am about ready to take this afternoon off if it quits raining and load up and go to Swan Creek to the range and do about 3 full mag dumps. Or a semiauto simulation of one. She hasn't worked in about 3 weeks and is really needing her money. My frustration level is about at max. I thought just typing this would help but it hasn't so I am hitting the send button. IRS needs to be burnt to the ground!!!

Your going to really be pissed when the next "agent" you get won't talk to you about your daughter's account because they don't have a power of attorney on record. Ask me how I know....

Maybe hers is different, but I was told this year when we did our taxes that refunds weren't going to start being issued until the 28th. We did owe taxes on the 14th, efiled and had a direct deposit. They told us it would still be mid March. I could have been misinformed.

Did ours on the 12th, and it was deposited in the bank yesterday.

She did hers on the 1st. IRS says yea we sent it on the 22nd. Bank says we have no record of anything. And yea she is going to have to be the one to talk to them.

I had a similar problem a few years ago. I got Rep. Aderholt involved and to his credit his office helped me get it straightened out.

Make sure they pay YOU a penalty with interest because that's
what they would do if it was the other way around.

True, but sometimes it's a little difficult getting all the exemptions, credits and such to work out just right. I'm actually getting a little back this year when I tried to make it work out that I pay in every year.

You are mostly right and I agree except in her case there is not much way around it.

Bummer. I feel for you. The first people who answer your call at the IRS are only trained to regurgitate from a manual or what you can view for yourself online. Most people are calling about a bill they received from the IRS. The theory is you call, you get frustrated, you give up and pay the bill. It is frustration by design.


The IRS should never talk to someone about another taxpayer's taxes without proper authorization. You don't want an ex-wife calling the IRS and getting financial info to take you back to court.

have you pulled her tax return to see what account number it went to? make sure it is correct there.

Don't be too quick to assume that the IRS did something wrong in your particular case. I have personally encountered numerous instances where a bank incorrectly posted a Direct Deposit when the incoming deposit demand was correct (the account # and amount provided by the IRS to the Bank or Credit Union) and it has generally taken a lot of effort to get the financial institution to "check a little farther". Not saying that the IRS could not have made an error but there are other possibilities

Finally got to talk to a "person". Said the check would be in the mail Thursday. It had been rejected by the bank. I'd bet dinner that the person last night could have told her that. So I feel a little better. Doesn't change my feelings about the IRS one bit. 4 hours one the phone...90% on hold.

If it did reject at the bank, they would have had a record of it. If they just looked for the deposit to post or be pending, it would not have been seen. They would have had to check the ACH log to see if it came in. They could have pulled it by the amount to see if it rejected also.

90% of the time they do not do this unless asked.

That said, usually the routing or account number is wrong for it to reject like this.

Well most likely scenario is she doesn't have a checking account so she wanted it deposited in to mine. Her name is not on my account so that may have been the issue. My other daughter has put hers in her mother's account for years with out a problem.

Off topic, but how does an adult with a job not have a checking account?
