That there is precisely why I am in business. Except with tablesaws and not with chain saws. The first thing you must do, with a new table saw, is throw away the guards. Sure would be a money maker if someone designed a blade guard that didn't make the saw completely useless.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

I cut my right thigh side to side all the way to the femur bone. I was down Mandeville La two days after Katrina to help a friend cut 15 trees off his house. I was deep in a tangle cutting trees loose so my friend could pull em out with a backhoe. I cut a small twisted sapling and it grabbed the saw blade and turned it 180 degrees and into my thigh. Instant bad metal taste in mouth. Small twisted stuff is 1000X more dangerous that cutting big trees.

1) My E.R. doc friends say stitches generally aren't and option anyway. If the chain cut it, you've got a roughly 1/4" wide chunk missing. Stitches don't fix that. They generally clean it, fill it full of antibiotic ointment, and wrap it with gauze.
Chaps and a hard hat are an absolute requirement. If you are so out of shape that you'll get heat stroke wearing them, then hire it out. Period.
Used to be a lifeguard, until that blue kid got me fired.

I clean it out, poured everything in the house thru it, then superglued inside cut, pulled it shut and superglued again. Wrapped it and back to work. No infection, very little pain, ten years later no scar. Second time wasn't as bad. Went to UAB ER, got stitches. Still have a scar. Superglue is the bomb.

I know quite a few folks that have been bit by a table saw. Saw a Mexican nearly lose 3 digits trying to rip a piece of hardwood on a miter saw. Yep. We run 2 table saws (and numerous others) and I've seen some nasty stuff happen.
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

Sure would be a money maker if someone designed a blade guard that didn't make the saw completely useless. Yep, throw the guard away and keep a push stick handy and you will be much safer. Trying to use a guard on a table saw is a good way to get hurt. I guess the worst farm accidents I've had all involve getting whacked by limbs when running a tractor or dozer in the woods. I've spent many hours running chainsaws and other types of saws and never had an accident. Always a first time, so everyone be careful.

you are right about limbs in the wood Preacher. I like to have run a good size pine stick thru my leg one day pushing off a new field with a dozer. It got by everything and I saw it at the last second and stopped. Dangerous stuff for sure.
cut my bird finger on a table saw once, lucky? the blade just ran up the top of the finger to the second knuckle, cutting a trough. Almost no pain, even when the nurse at UAB "cleaned" the cut. But that damn shot of "deadener" almost made me fly. I took six stitches without deadener after that. She stuck the needle straight into the proud flesh at the end of my finger. Hurts to think about it even now.

Pair of carhartts is better than jeans. I’ve got some insulated overalls that have been bit a couple of times. Never made it to the insulation. carhartt is really nice work pants. shoulda been wearing them for sure. I been told some of them are snake proof too...not sure I want to test that theory either tho

Sure would be a money maker if someone designed a blade guard that didn't make the saw completely useless. That's exactly what slippinlip did. They have a manufacturing business producing blade guards for table saws.

I have a good friend that cut deep into his thigh and nearly bled out. His teenage son was with him and had to apply pressure directly into the wound on the artery even with a tourniquet applied. Dang scar is about 18" long. He wears chaps religiously now.

Ran a chainsaw all day today and kept thinking of this thread!!
