I had the 1500 4x4 Ram new in 2006 I think. pulled a very light travel trailer with it across country (military move) the trailer might have weighed 4k ...2 months after getting across country the transmission went out. started slipping in every gear. took it to the dealership and got a diesel...never had a gas burner since. I love the RAM 2500 and 3500..I've had them both and have the 2500 now. I would never own another F-150 or 1500 gas burning truck..bad idea.

I’ve got a 2011 1500 with 170K miles. I have abused the truck from day one and side from normal oil and filter changes I’ve got about $1,700 in repairs. I’m happy with mine.

Dodge doesn't make the Ram anymore. They sold out to Fiat a few years ago. Their trucks consistently rank near, or at, the bottom in reliability. Same as everything else Fiat makes.

I'm curious who does the rankings that you speak of?

It’s the 2019 motor Trend truck of the year,... FWIW

Fiat says they own the name and the manufacturing facilities that Ram trucks are made in. Consumer Reports says they are the least reliable brand among auto manufacturers so it appears they break more than the others.

To alleviate concerns that CR is biased, the 2019 Tundra is number 5 in least reliable trucks. Ram takes the top 3 spots in lowest reliability with their 3500, 2500 and 1500 coming in 3rd 2nd and 1st, respectively. This is Toyota's first year on the list. Ram has been on it every year since Fiat took over, I believe.

Not really. Publications like Motor Trend get the new models well before they come to market, for testing purposes. Consumer Reports does long term testing before rating, unless otherwise specified.

Not the OP’s question, but I traded a 2012 2500 cummins for a 2016 2500 Cummins, and will be trading it for a 2019 2500 Cummins.

They’re good trucks, I can’t imagine the 1500 isn’t

There are different kinds of quality ratings. IQS (Initial Quality Study) is one that is done within the first ninety days of ownership.

My humble opinion coupled with some experience...RAM Diesel (Cummins) is 10x better than RAM Gas...I've had them both

I’d like to see hoggin weigh in on this since he makes a living repairing vehicles. I trust his opinion.

Hoggin ain't gonna chime in and praise any of the newer diesels.

Not sure what he might have to say about the Ram gas burners.

I'd trust his judgment though as much stuff as goes through his shop. thumbup

Pretty sure all those "awards" are scams that are paid for and mean zilch.

I ran a 2004 Dodge with the Hemi for 245,000 with no issues. Never even needed a front end alignment.

Currently drive a 2016 2500 with the Cummins, wife has a 2016 1500 with the Hemi. Don't buy the small V8, I have heard of problems with it.
