Well we learned the hard way using aluminum cable with our Dog Proof traps...3 of them ran off lol...What do y'all use that is cheap to secure them to a tree or whatever?

I use drowner cable in about 6ft sections with a big loop on the far end from the trap. Run the cable around the tree and the trap through the loop, cinch it down and tack a fence staple on it to keep him from dragging it up the tree.

I use a 10ft #2 chain with a clip on the end.

3/32 galvanized 7x7 has a 900lb breaking strength you can get 1,000 feet for about 50 bucks. Make a loop on one end and do like Coosa1 said I put an extra swivel on mine just to keep it from getting a kink

this 3/32 7×7 crimped with a small loop to attach to trap chain and a large loop to fit trap thru after u wrap it around the tree. you can get 250ft of cable, crimp ferrules, crimper and a wire cutter on amazon for around $50-$60 you only need about 6ft of cable per trap. I dont waste time with extra swivels the Duke DP traps have 3 already built onto the chain.

I buy 10' 3/16" chain from wally world and put 5' on a trap. Use a quick link to attach to trap loop the other end around a tree with a caribiner.

I have never bothered trying to cover them. It takes a lot of rain to melt a marshmellow and canned mackeral.

I just run a screw through the little piece of chain that comes on the dp trap and screw it to a tree or feeder with a drill

I normally use big headed bolts and a cordless drill. Simply screw the bolt into the side of a tree or large root. Haven't lost one that way yet.
