The 300 RUM maybe has more energy than you need for Deer at the expense of heavy recoil and maybe a heavy rifle? That's about it really. I have a 300 RUM with a brake on it and it recoils about like a 30/06 so...

A 243, shooting the 103gr eldx, at 1050 yards will make it to thru offside shoulder and lodge just under the skin. Don’t need a cannon to kill one

Don’t need a cannon to kill one I couldn't find the data but i can't imagine that round carrying more than 400ft lbs of energy at that distance. I don't think that's close to adequate for deer sized game.

I don't think that's close to adequate for deer sized game. With that specific bulletin you are somewhere around 620ftlbs of energy at 1k and it’s still moving at 1600fps. 6.5 creedmoor with 140g loads will stay above 800ftlbs out to 90o yards and close to 1700 FPS. Like I said before it doesn’t require magnums to get to 1k and still have enough energy to kill

I gotta 22Topper built on a Cricket action with a 48in spiral fluted barrel in a McSwirly custom stock pushing hand poured 188gr tungsten hammers at just shy of 6,300fps. I can hold on hair at 750yds and drop an elk like a pair o' squirrel covers backstage at a Floribama Swimsuit Competition

A bear at 1000 with a Creed ? Actually it was 1150yds. A friend of mine shoots completion with him. To make it even better he used a Berger match bullet to do it.

For those who don't take game at ranges like this (me included), it's hard to comprehend the skill that has been developed by the shooter to make such a shot. My personal limit is in the range of 5-600 yards. Given time to practice and some good coaching by someone who knows what they are doing, many of us could make shots out to 1000 yards.

A testamate to what can be done when you couple good equipment with somebody that has practiced enough with that equipment to know what it does and how it performs.

Good points Gator. I'd add that the guy who smoked the bear with a Creed was probably not only equipped with the gun , scope with enough windage and elevation adjustment,, spotting scope bullet,, wind meter, ballistic calculator, ballistic graph for his load, and a boat load of experience.... is a far bit ahead of those who just want a deer rifle that will kill from 500 to 1000 yards. 500 yards is a LONG shot. 1150 is pushing the limits of guys like I'm describing above.
When I look at a long range setup, I look at what platforms the military and law enforcement uses ( within reason ). A 30 -338 caliber carries a lot of sectional density and ballistic co-efficiency on out there. Heavier bullets may be effected by gravity a little more due to the slower speed, but people don't take into account the fact that they aren't blown sideways as much in the windage dept. Gravity is a constant and can be adjusted for with the right equipment and math. windage , not so much.

Also keep in mind that LEOs almost never have to make those type shots. They are likely to have a marksman for certain standoffs but those are generally well with 300 yards and likely less than 100 in urban areas. Military applications have merit to consider but remember that beyond a certain distance with active combat engagement, going out to 800, 1000, 1200 yards to hit an enemy soldier, simply scoring a hit sufficient for removing him from serviceability is a win. You owe it to game to kill humanely, not wound, at whatever distance you choose to shoot from.

I'm sitting here at the Shot Show. I'm going with this new Ruger Precision Rifle in 300 Win Mag. It's going to retail around $2k so street price should be just under $2k.
You can't build a rifle for that... which would do what this thing will do. You'll just have to hump about I'm guessing 18lbs scoped... worth of hardware to where you'll be taking the shot.
