I am curious to know if anyone out there shoots 4 vanes rather than 3? (iI think I read where Shaw is) I have read and heard a lot of good things about the accuracy of 4 vanes, but is it a big difference? Is that extra vane adding something that may interfere with something during the shot?

Also, I am thinking about making the switch from 100g to 125g. For those of you shooting 125g, can you tell a difference in the penetration? What are some thoughts/ideas on this?

Really, what it boils down to, I am bored with my setup and want to swap it up a little.

I fletched up a 4 vane last night. Like you, im looking to mix things up a little. When the rain stops im going to shoot it and see how she flies out of my current setup. As far as penetration, theory wise, heavier penetrates better but in reality I’ve never noticed a difference shooting deer with 100 vs 125. I would say on the 125 vs 100, use whichever one flies best out of
Your setup.

I assume to if you hit them where you are supposed to hit them penetration really is not a big factor. I would like to hear how the 4 vane flies though, so keep me posted.

If you shoot fixed heads it’s definitely a game changer. If you shoot mechnicals, not so much. One negative that I have found with shooting four vanes with mechanical heads is my arrows are more apt to hang up at the fletches on the exit side on deer. So now I shoot 3 vanes on my arrows with mechanicals and 4 with fixed heads.

You be the judge on which is more accurate. Orange are four fletch and American flag are three fletch. Same arrows from the same bow at 70 yards. I’ve changed all my tournament arrows over to four fletch. As long as you use a drop away rest you shouldn’t have any fletching contact problems. I still use three fletch on my hunting arrows and I’m only shooting 50 pound draw weight.

Interesting pictures sluggun and I appreciate your pictures. Any particular reason you still use the 3 vane to hunt deer?

Shaw, that was my next idea! I usually shoot swhackers, but my buddy has about sold me on the ram cats, so I may make that change next year as well! (And maybe even a new string and tune up from you once you get back going)

Just haven’t seen the need to strip the factory fletchings off of my Gold Tips when they’re accurate enough at 30 yards for hunting.

Shot my 4 vane a couple dozen times yesterday pm and she flew great. All i ever shoot is fixed blade heads so im going to fletch up some more. If i just shot mechanicals i probably wouldn’t be experimenting with 4 fletch.

As far ss penetration goes, a heavier arrow will penetrate more. It's more profound in lighter poundage bows. Most guys here elk hunting with lighter poundage are shooting arrows in the 470-600gr area and using 2 blade heads.
The 70# guys are all over with finidhed arrow weight.

Just swapping to the 125gr heads not gonna be a real big difference. Im shooting 125s but, I grabbed some 150gr heads to test with my bow thats maxed to 63#. I'll probably keep shooting 125gr with both my bows though

Yeah, no need in changing something grouping like that! Like I said, I am just bored and wanting to try something different. Thank you for the feed back!
