Pelham and Alabaster is a nice area to live in with lots of stuff to do, lots of good restaurants but tons of illegal immigrants. Helena is nice too and has fewer illegals.

The only problems with the areas mention above (Vestavia, Homewood, Mt Brook, etc), other then being a little pricey, is they are in Jefferson County. I truly believe you’d have to pay me to live in that county again.

the hipster areas of Homewood are as high per sq ft as anywhere else round here. That doesn't mean anything just making an observation.

Wait a while to purchase to make sure you like the area before you buy and look, look, and look some more. A 70k dollar 30 year older home needing upgrades in rural Alabama will go for $200-300k or upwards of that just for the 1/3 acre lot in certain parts of the up and coming Homewood or Vestavia Hills. Anywhere you live if you don't live near your job you will have some good driving to get across town worse certain times of day 10x worse others. It is not lower Alabama everything is higher for a decent area. Just thought I would let you know, so maybe you can negotiate for a little more on your salary to get you off on the right start.

Those section eight homes down from Limbaugh would go for about 400k in Mountain Brook!

Bradfield Gorrie is a great company. They treat their employees and community the right way. Company has a great story of building something from nothing over the years and they have had some great leaders during their history. If I were a single man in my 20's, I'd look downtown. If I had a young family with kids I'd check out Vestavia. Excellent school system.

B&G built that big "State of the Art" Hospital off 280. The deal fell through and they had to eat it and sit on it for years. They paid all their Subs and just sucked it up.

Simmons is a hidden jewel of a store in a not so great area. Good prices and even better people. There is also a great restaurant, the Bright Star, which is a couple blocks away and has been there for over 100 years.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume you don’t go to downtown B’ham regularly during rush hour. I worked downtown and lived north of jasper (50 min drive) and some days my commute was shorter than my boss, who lived in Pelham, commute.

Great company, my best friend and business partner is one of the higher ups. Miller Gorrie built a fine business by giving the company away to his employees. They take care of their people..

You can always try Hoover, I lived their in early 2000s. I don't know that I'd want to go that route again, but was a lot of fun as a single man.
