Don't know how the place is now,but years ago when I worked for hammermill, we called it the Dawson tract. The whole place was crawling with deer & it should still be thick with em. Find some edge cover of some sort & sit tight- don't think you can go wrong

The dawson tract isn't part of the soa. sounds like he's back behind the old hit and miss and dr youngbloods property.

Yall are always entertaining, my spot is north of 41, and right next to creek. I think I am gonna concentrate on funnels by creek and try and locate some white oaks, maybe they will still e around the 1st week of Nov

I drew Area 9 which is right at the 225/41 intersection for Feb 7-10. The latest email I got says they will have scouting days this Saturday AND Sunday. I'm going to be there on Sunday.

Fyi - as of yesterday only one legal buck has been killed. I think it has to be 18” main beam and/or 17” inside spread. A couple other 8 points have been taken but were too small. Lots of does have been killed

Man I used to hunt next to hit and miss back in the 80's and 90's. What an awesome area. Haven't been back there in 20 years or so. Lots of big bucks and a beautiful area. I am jealous.

I used to hunt Hit and Miss in the 70's. Only club I knew of back then that actually tried to manage deer. The season opened on a Friday back then. We killed 30 racks opening day and 13 on Saturday one year. What a great place to hunt.

Where exactly was the Hit and Miss club?

I'm curious, what happens to the hunter that kills one under the specified size?

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I shot a nice buck on the boundary of the club and two guys came looking for me yelling and crap. Ducked down in a creekbank and hid as I watched them walk by. They also walked right by the big buck I shot and didn't see it. Wasn't doing anything wrong just didn't want to deal with them and figured they were going to try and steal my deer. They had a lot of big red oaks back then that held a lot of deer. I heard they had a bunch of big food plots before food plotting became popular. Always saw nice bucks and found a huge dead ten point one time too that one of them must have shot and it ran over into our beaver pond. Had a lot of big oaks with moss hanging out of them but the spanish moss was full of chiggers. Lots of coyotes and bobcats back then too. The bobcats would eat the gutpiles.

Anyone hunting down near Pine Barren Creek with these warmer temps needs to keep an eye out for alligators. I saw two that were both well over 10' cruising the timber on that place. Lots of deer and pigs just about anywhere on the tract. It's very diverse terrain so depending on your hunt unit you could be in a bottomland hardwood flat or in prairie uplands. There was some active cattle pasture when Forever Wild purchased this place, I'm curious what the state will do with those areas.
