Yesterday my buddy killed this buck with no nuts. He was a 3.5 yo 175# 8 point chasing a doe. Antlers where clean ,no velvet. I've seen them in velvet with a missing nut but this buck didn't look like he ever had a pair. Didn't have much of a pecker either. Kinda felt bad fer em...

Ha. I've had a similar experience. I killed a 9pt about 10 years ago. Hard antler. It was the rut and he was trying to run "with" the does, but I think they thought he was chasing them so they weren't having any part of it. When I picked his head up after I found him, I thought to myself, for a buck to be in rut like he should be, he sure has a small neck. Well, when I went to drag him out, I grabbed an antler and pulled. The antler came off in my hand and I fell back in a mud hole. Got my rifle wet. Grabbed the other antler, same thing happened. They didn't come off at the base, they pulled off about 3" above the base and the inside of the antlers were rotten. They were just mush on the inside. After I got him back to the shop I saw he had no nuts. Felt sorry for the poor thing. He had a few warts too. My bucks wee wee was bigger than your bucks is though Shiloh. Just sayin. Lol. I call em he-she deers.

I doubt a doctor would believe you got genital warts from a deer lol.

I believe it was James who had the deer pic with the big knutsack on him.

Found 'em
But seriously, probably a case of cryptorchidism - nuts were probably still up in the abdominal cavity. That's what I'm thinking. If he's growing antlers, he's got nuts. Likely they never dropped and ya'll just didn't find them.

Dont know if it works the same way with deer as it does horses, but I'm sure it's at least somewhat similar, but if the buck lost his nuts in some sort of accident/attack by predator, they can still have the desire to breed/chase, and even can go through the action of breeding bc they still have what I've heard a vet call a "squealer."

Heck, how cold was it that day? Probably just sucked up tight like mine do on a cold morning.

I shot a buck about 30 years ago without cods. He had spikes about 9" long. Still in velvet and a lot of strange cartilage like growth around the base of his antlers. I'm guessing he was born that way. Not sure about age or weight. He was following a group of does but it was not chasing activity.
