I'm first year in a club in the triangle in Perry County enclosed by 219 on the East, 183 on the North, and 14 on the other side. So when do they typically start up scraping, and when do they start chasing in that area?

Thanks in advance!

Around middle of January. Last year was an exceptional rut. Let’s hope the same this year.

I have always counted January 15 as the peak, and I've been hunting that area for over 50 years. You can see a buck chasing any time during January or even February, but the 15th is consistently the peak.

Thanks to everyone for the input. Interestingly, one club member was encouraging me to take time off the last week of January or the ten days in February. The rest of the club would just hemhaw and never give a good answer.

In my part of Perry County you better be in the woods as often as possible in the next 7 days then again the last week of January. 2 of the 4 we have to shoot this yr showed up this morning in the daylight for the first time this yr.

Saw a big one paired up with a doe in a wood line today in Sprott.

I saw a nice buck in a field right before you cross the Cahaba today. Man that river is high!

Shot my 2nd deer yesterday in Perry county. He was following a tiny doe. She came bouncing out of the woods then slowly made her way to about ten yards from me looking over her shoulder toward the place she popped out from. About ten minutes later he walked in and got shot at about 25 yards. Really cool experience to have them both so close.
