A D'arcy Echols custom rifle built on a Granite Mountain mauser action is the best rifle you can buy, bar none. But you will need at least $75,000 for one of his masterpieces.
Back to reality. Dollar for dollar, the Ruger American is the best you can buy. An inexpensive rifle that delivers consistent accuracy and reliability, which is all you really need a rifle to do.

Kimber Hunter for the under $1000 vote. 3 position safety, Mauser style bolt, flush fit magazine fed, excellent trigger
Montana Rifle Company for the over $1000. Modern copy of a pre-1964 Winchester Model 70. Outstanding rifles. I really liked the X2, and the X3 is supposed to be better
Seekins Havak, Fierce Fury, Alamo Precision, Christensen Arms, Jarrett Revolution, etc for the over $2000 vote

Again, “best” is subjective and I know many folk here aren’t man enough to tote a Ruger Guide Gun because its hefty. Yes,subjective, because that's like saying you married the prom queen because you weren't man enough to handle the janitor.

I didn’t say fugly, just not a high maintenance, moody, finicky, overrated chick with daddy issues.
I understand there are those stupid sucker kinda fellas that spend their life on the hamsterwheel of “happy wife, happy life”...what a waste of emotions and perpetual strife.

Best value American rifle? It's Savage and their 110. It will outshoot the ruger and remington and cost a few hundred less. And they're still fugly as hell...

I wouldn't put Remington and best in the same sentence. A completely worked over Remington, ya sure, but for an off the shelf rifle, no way. In the past decade or two (when you was in diapers) I would agree. But I'll take a late 80s (or earlier) model 700 and outshoot anything you can bring to the range.

Are we still talking about rifles? To some degree. Some folk view both for superficial trophy qualities instead a natural tool for the job.
