Is there a wrong time of the year to cut back big azalea bushes? I'm ready to take the pole saw to them as soon as this rain spell is over.

Wrong time if you want them to flower in the spring, but they will live fine.

After spring bloom, cut them back before July 4 if you want them to bloom the next year.
