Cooper if we are talking blued steel and walnut for sure. In stainless and synthetic,it's debatable. If I wanted light weight then a Barrett Fieldcraft,if long range ,a GAP.

Weatherby Mark V Deluxe would fit in that category somewhere. Is that made in Merica? I would say that Ruger, Remington, and Savage make some nice rifles. The 700 with an upgraded trigger would be my starting point.

I wouldn't put Remington and best in the same sentence. A completely worked over Remington, ya sure, but for an off the shelf rifle, no way. I’ve never had one that wouldn’t shoot, and as well as any TikkaSako I’ve owned.

The 700 with an upgraded trigger would be my starting point. Yup, Specifically a Ruger American, because they just shoot very well. They ain't pretty, but for a rifle that is as accurate as any off the shelf rifle and probably as accurate as a lot of custom builds, this would be my first choice. Second would be a 700. Only reason it don't qualify for the first spot tie with Ruger is the sorry XMP trigger...Sure I have seen a few that had issues, but the new ones have a bad rep that isn't deserved. I have bought probably 8-10 over the last few years and have never gotten a bad one. Savage is also a good gun, I just don't care for them.

You have to define “best”.
The absolute most rock solid unstoppable rifle produced in the US is the Ruger 30-06 Guide Gun.

Hmm "best" isn't easily defined. Savage's&Rugers homely looking but tackdrivers. Jarrett's&Sisk's pretty and also tackdrivers(and 4 figure prices too)
Skinny is my EX.Alcohol was involved.

I got an off the shelf Remington 700 in 270 that shoots as well or better than riles costing much more.
Sig Sauer, to hell and back reliable.

Let's just say looks has to count for something, with that being said it would have to be wood stock. Synthetic stock guns are just ugly I own a couple and they shoot great but not very pretty. I was looking at getting a Winchester model 70 7mm/08 beautiful gun but not made in USA that sucks.

Bergara's Premier line over any of the others I've seen mentioned so far I was going to mention Bergara rifles. I know they are a Spanish company but accuracy should be the bottom line not where it was made

But yes I would agree, country of origin be damned, I want the best product for my dollar personally.

I'm a sucker for a 3-position safety so for USA made I'd lean towards pre-Portugal Winchester M70, Kimber Montana (or Classic Select if you prefer walnut), maybe even a Montana Rifle Co for a slightly higher priced variant
