I was leaning towards the Hunter's Edge but had never handled any McMillan products other than the benchrest or competition models.

The kimber stocks are very high quality and lightweight, better stocks than a Bell and Carlson IMO. IIRC, Lumber used technology developed by Melvin Forbes of ultra light arms for their stocks. I do not know if he is making stocks again, but Mark Bansner makes a very good lightweight stock. I think he is trying to get things running again after his semi-custom gun partnership failed.

I bought a McMillan recently. I think it was a little over $400 and I waited about 3 months. It's ok, but it's not worth the extra cost for me. I'll go back to using B&C stocks. To me, they're about perfect.

B&C are not to bad. McMillan is better. B&C has a good returns dept if you don’t like it

HS Precision builds a great stock, but might be a bit heavier than the McMillan. Manners is another high quality maker.
HS stocks are pretty good, but HEAVY. I like the Manners stocks, and will probably use an EH-3 model for my next build. They are not a traditional style stock but are ergonomically correct and fit great.

I've used B&C stocks for years as a cheaper alternative and my experience is that some are good and some you sink enough time bedding into you would be better off buying a McMillan. To me they are overpriced if you are paying near $300 for one..... you'd be better off spending another $100+ if even on an HS precision and getting more of a sure thing. If you don't want to spend the money a Hogue with the bedding block is hard to beat for a cheap replacement.
That being said I'm using a B&C right now for a build and it's fine. Every time I get one that is NOT fine I swear I am done and I'll never buy another and only get McMillian or Manners. It's a vicious cycle they are nice stocks they should just be $200 or less. Many require significant elbow grease to get that custom rifle accuracy out of.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
