I haven't had the opportunity to hunt a cutover in 20 plus years. We recently had 200 acres cut on our club they moved out last week would it be wise to let it sit until the rut or go ahead and hunt it. Our club is small 6 members 800 acres and only 1 other hunter has hunted this year so not a lot of pressure on the club
If you've got them by the balls their hearts and minds will follow.

Deer cut corners too. I'd also look at water access and any ditches or low areas they may use. Watch the treeline as well at the cut area. I've seen groups of bucks walk to the edge and look for does. If they didn't see one they return to the woods.

I have permission to hunt about 150 acres of cutover. Do y'all think it would be worth it.

Honestly I've never hunted cutover or greenfield's. Growing up in TN all we hunted was hardwoods and old mine dumps. Didn't know because of how long it's been timbered.

This is my first year in a club and I have never hunted a cutover as well. We have around 1000 acres of cutover broken up. Any other tips for hunting them other than corners and low areas? Do you guys climb a tree in a corner or on the edge of the woods or do you find a high spot in the middle of the cutover and sit on the ground? We don’t have any shooting houses in our cutovers to my knowledge. I want to climb as high as I can, in whatever spot lets me cover the most ground. I do NOT share the same enthusiasm as these fellas for a fresh dirt clearcut, but I know people do it and get lucky. I want it to be a few years old, belt-high in briars. Again, I have a gun that can shoot hundreds of yards, I want to watch hundreds of yards. If there's a pine on the edge (or in the drainages, or even out in the middle), especially if it's on a high area to give you even that much more height advantage, climb it till you hit limbs. Frosty morning, listen for limbs popping, see the rack(s) moving around out there, aim and kill! I love cutovers for two main reasons, well three: First, they're the primary bedding area on your land, and deer spend more time bedded than anything else. Second, for whatever reasons, BUCKS in particular gravitate to cutovers. Third, you can see SO much ground!!!! I don't like narrowing my line of sight, especially not with a rifle. I don't hunt "funnels" or road crossings, etc. I want to get 50' high and see 500 yards across that cutover.
