I have a couple of areas of natural re-gen junk that I would like to have cleared and added to my food plots on my family land. Both areas already touch/border current openings. Most have smallish trees, gums, small pines, small oaks etc. But there are also, privet and a mess of green brier. It's basically nasty thick and horrible to drag a deer through as I found out last Friday. I want to clear out another acre or so to both areas. If you were clearing areas, do you prefer dozer work or forestry mulching/hogging in so much as ease of conversion to plots? The largest plot would end up being around 2.75-3 acres and I'd like to start a bean rotation on it. The other is probably going to be grains and clovers.

Seeing you are in West Alabama, give Chris Bowles a call. He has a dozer and mulcher and can tell you what would be your best and cheapest route (not always the same.) He will shoot you straight and knows what he's doing.

IMHO, 100% use a dozer on something like that. The mulcher will leave a lot of the roots underground. Quicker and a lot less per hour cost of operation.

We just had a plot expanded. They guy used a dozer to clear thick, skinny pine trees and brush. He got all of the stumps up too and it was ready to plant. He used a track hoe on the big trees. A track hoe is a powerful machine.
