I recently learned about Adoudads out in Texas, most sheep hunting is ungodly expensive(brand new truck money for bighorn) but aoudads seem to be much more affordable.
Looks like $3,000-5,000 or so for the hunt. Then extras like airfare, motel, taxidermy, rental car etc.

Has anyone on here been hunting in Texas/New Mexico for aoudad?
Guided or self-guided?

This would take a while to save up for but it looks like a fun hunt from the YouTube videos I've been watching.

Just something that I've never had interest in at all.

All sheep or just aoudads in particular?

I’ve always wanted to shoot one but I’m not paying that much money for something you can’t even eat. From everything I’ve read they taste absolutely horrible

I had several at close range hunting in Tx years ago. Things are incredibly goofy looking.

friend of mine had one on a high fence place...it destroyed one side of his truck attacking it's image reflecting off it.

I could see that happening. They could probably total a vehicle if they got all 4 sides.

My first morning hunting out there it was cloudy and foggy. I kept wondering why that bush kept moving very slow. Finally when it got light enough my guide said look at that trophy aoudad right there. I acted like I'd been watching it for a while. It was the bush I'd been seeing moving in that ravine

My brother shot one in a high fence in Texas. The place was like a zoo. You could shoot anything you wanted. The guide put us in a shooting house, 15 minutes later a truck with a big fertilizer buggy came by, he blew his horn and drove around field spreading corn. The field was immediately full of every kind of animal you can imagine. Over 100 animals total. He shot a big sheep. The other animals didn’t even move. We got out of the stand to go look at his sheep and the other animals still didn’t move. They ate every kernel of corn and slowly disappeared into the brush. It’s a tough hunt

You are correct. Some exotics are good to eat, but I've never heard anyone say Aoudad was one of them. They do make an awesome trophy, though.

That sounds like the exact opposite of how I’d ever want to go hunting for an animal and be successful.

Yup I agree.
Personally, I think at a certain point a huge piece of property with a fence CAN be good hunting. A small property with tame animals on a schedule would be extremely boring.

I am talking about wild free range aoudad hunting.
