Not a bad deal for those looking to establish some Sawtooths.

Every year I have people come to my house and pick them up by the thousands. I have planted tons of them by just pushing a metal bar in the ground about 2 inches and dropping an acorn in the small hole. I then step on it to cover it and walk to where I want another one. These things will be dropping acorns in just a couple of years. They are very easy to identify in the fall as they hold most of their leaves almost all winter. Deer will flat tear them up.

Find someone who has them in their yard and get all you want. PSA-They will bloat and kill cows. We lost one two years ago that got through the fence to get the acorns and she ate till the acorns killed her. Our cows walk the fence lines looking daily for any that have dropped. They love them also.

Hope this helps with time and money.

I planted a bunch of them in 2003. They have been producing heavily for the last 8 years. Only thing I don't like about em is they are usually all gone by bow season.

That's a bit of useful info. I didn't know they were gone so quick. I was considering planting some.

This is true. That’s what I quit planting ST and started planting chestnuts. Produces just as quick, hold on a little longer and more productive.

Screw that!!! I'll shoot a deer for eating my chestnuts. I love them things. Seriously, that's what I will probably plant. They seem to do well around here from what I see in people's yard.

They are the first acorns to drop and will be used heavily by deer in a specific area because of this. I planted tons of them in TN on properties I have owned. Season opens a little earlier and acorns are on the ground.

I had some Chinese Chestnuts my Dad planted for me years ago. When they dropped, they were covered with a needle like hull with hundreds of stickers. They would puncture tractor tires and get in the feet of cows. I cut them all down because of this. Is there a variety of Chestnut that doesn't have the thorny hulls I planted?

They work pretty good for attracting the deer to your property before season even starts and before the other oaks start dropping

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White
