I thought I would share a concoction that I've recently discovered and absolutely love for bbq, mainly for pulled pork on sandwiches. It's got a much better sweet, tangy, hot balance to it than a lot of thin vinegar bbq sauces I've tried over the years. Anyhow here's the recipe if anyone wants to give it a shot:

- 2 Cups Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 Tbsp Ketchup
- 2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 1 Tsp Black Pepper
- 1 Tsp Cayenne
- 1 Tbsp Red Pepper Flake

Whisk all ingredients together in a saucepan on med-high heat until it comes to a boil, then remove and let cool to room temp. Place in a jar and refrigerate for a day before serving. The stuff gets better with time IMO and probably doesn't have to be refrigerated but I keep mine there and warm it up as needed.

Drizzle over pulled pork on sandwiches or use it to dress the meat when pulling or chopping.

I have made this North Carolina sauce for years. This is almost the exact recipe. It is awesome on pork and excellent used as a pepper vinegar on greens and such.

I love vinegar sauce. Mine contains white and apple cider vinegar, Louisian, Cayenne and black pepper. It's what I was raised having with BBQ.

About like mine, but I blend up a chipotle pepper or two in it.

That vinegar sauce is good stuff. The base for mine is 1 part Apple cider vinegar, 1 part white vinegar, and 1 part Heinz 57

Gonna try this, I've always just winged it and never followed a recipe. Just about every store bought BBQ sauce I buy, once it gets about 1/4 of it gone, I always just fill it back up with apple cider vinegar and shake it up. I have a strange addiction to vinegar. Another good type of vinegar to use in place of regular white vinegar for things is champagne vinegar.

Hallb I'm with ya man. I've always loved vinegary (is that a word?) foods and dressings. I love white sauce on chicken for that reason too.

Here is mine: (Corrected version)

2 cups apple cider vinegar
3 Tablespoons Ketchup
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 Tablespoons Paprika
1 Tablespoon hot sauce
4 teaspoons kosher salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon dry mustard

Wisk to dissolve sugar and refrigerate a day ahead of time. Store in old large sized salad dressing bottle with a shaker top (like an oil & vinegar type). Will keep for 4 weeks easy, but it never last that long.

Edit...originally posted from memory but I was off on measurements. Corrected once I looked at recipe tonight.

Have you tried Full Moon BBQ’s vinegar based slaw?
It’s the best I’ve ever had. I had it at the restaurant and then found their recipe online and started making it every time I smoke butts.
Makes a fine slawBq.
