So long story short a shot a big hog Saturday and he roll down a step hill around 50 yards from where I shot him. He rolled into some thick brush and I was unable to retrieve him. Will deer show back up to the area with a hog carcass in the area?

Bet the yotes will! Deer deal with death all the time, but will probably avoid the area for a bit. If he starts to stink , I would think they will avoid it cause it is too overwhelming.

I know when the hog was alive he didn’t stop the deer from coming around. Seen them on the trail camera within mins of each other for months. I guess we will find out tomorrow. I really want to hunt the same spot just because I have seen numerous deer on cams there.

I've seen a deer walk by (with-in 10 yards) of a yesterdays deer gutpile and not even flinch.

That carcass will probably be there come January but dead stuff dont bother deer. I have never had anything eat boar hogs when they were shot and left. They eventually just rot and bones remain

I can’t believe Barry didn’t show you his trick. Those boar hogs have some tough skin and it’s hard for critters to get in, he showed me to cut the skin open from ass to head (just a long cut) and allow the critters a way in to the meat and they will disappear in no time.

Our deer will actively avoid hogs. They may hit the same fields but it’s always deer first and first whiff of hog and they are gone. Coyotes are also slow to work on a bigger one. I think they’re afraid it isn’t actually dead unless it’s been cut up. They’ll devour one that’s been cleaned and dumped in our gut pile overnight but shoot one and leave it in a road and they’ll run past it for weeks.

My hogs are cannibals. They will eat the dead hog that same day. I have shot a hog in the morning and shot another one eating him that afternoon.

If you leave them, definitely split them end to end. The clean up crews will work on them much quicker it seems.

That's what I've seen too. I've had them chase down a wounded hog, kill it, and eat it.

Good grief. What a bunch of savages. Makes you want to avoid getting yourself hurt to where you couldn’t extract yourself from the woods.

I always try avoid hurting myself to the point where I couldn’t extract myself from the woods.

There were 6 or 7 hunters ran down and devoured by wild hogs just this past week in Clarke County alone. I don’t know why they never put that stuff in the news??

That's kinda my goal for each day, woods or not.
