gcr, thats a good deer your buddy killed. I hope you get one this weekend while you are over there.
Don't sweat the points this early in the season. We've still got 3 months of hunting left. Everybody just needs to make sure they get a doe this year and that will get us 35 points (5 points each + 5 point bonus). And you know some of us will put a buck on the ground, so we should end up with plenty of points if everybody will shoot something this year. You know they say big dogs walk late. We're just giving everybody else a head start.
I'll be buck hunting the next few weeks, but I plan on shooting 2 or 3 does in December and then switching back to bucks only for the last month or two of the season.

Good luck in Georgia. I have seen more deer already than in the last 2 seasons. I'm gonna be down in Auburn hunting for the holidays and give my land a 2 week break. Also with gun season starting, I'm hoping it will drive some of the public land deer to us. Excited about gun season. I have never killed more than 2 deer in a season and if can stop missing then I should be able to set a PR.

I usually hunt with my buddy on his family land, but if he can't go during the week I'm there I will try my luck on Tuskegee. Hunted the NF alot in college.

Seeing a bunch and getting chances is all you can ask for. I’m sure you will kill a few deer before the season is out. I hope you get that new PR. You are still welcome to come hunt with me if we can get the timing to work out. I know your wife thought it was weird last year and I can understand that, but you are more than welcome to come

Yea I'm not stressing the points, just enjoy competing. I got my shift covered for tomorrow so I am going to hunt wheeler in the morning before heading to GA for the weekend. Maybe I'll get that pesky doe that I didn't kill last weekend. AUwrestler do you hunt public or private around Auburn?
Good luck to everyone this weekend Good luck this weekend. I wanna see some dead deer pics!

Hey guys, don't know what you have around your place. But bother deer I killed had a pile with acorns. The buck had whole whiteoaks in his stomach. Didn't even chew. Good luck.

Cool that you got to see the whole ones though. You gonna mount that buck? He looked like a goodun

I'm guessing 3.5 years old. But guess my points are done for the team, hope for a couple more does and then get lucky again in January. Thanks guys.

They'll chew them later as a mid day snack after they bed down... Like cud? idk about a cud but they'll regurgitate them, I was in Illinois several years ago bowhunting, and the little knob I was settin on was just perfect for them to bed down on in the sun about mid morning seemed like, cause it happened a couple times that hunt, anyway, I had 3 big ol nannies bed down below me about 60 yds one morning and after a couple hrs in the sun one of thems eyes started getting heavy and her head started bobbin ( you know like when your in a boring meeting ) and directly I had to stop watching her cause she was making me sleepy too well I started watching the other 2 and one of them started licking her lips like crazy and after a few minutes she starts spitting stuff out of her mouth....WTH is that?... about that time the other one with her head up starts jerking it around and she see's something and stands up which alerts the other ones and they all start looking and standing.....You guessed it...Here comes Mufassa.... He walked up and run his ol nose out sniffin on them does and they got all giddy and jumpin around and I just knew I was fixin to get a shot...well to make a long story short, they didn't smell good enough to do anything with and just as quick as he walked in my life he walked out....he had more points than I could count out of my bino;s... so I made it a freakin point when I got down to see what she was spitting out of her mouth and it was red oak hulls.... I never thought about them them doing that, even though I've killed a ton of them with whole acorns in them....Anyway Congrats on your buck AU...

You know that makes perfect sense to me now that you say that. In areas where deer bed, I have found crushed hulls of acorns scattered about. Didn't ever realize what it was until I read your post just now. It makes perfect sense. They can't digest it. You don't see it in their scat. It has to come out one end or the other.
