Well, this morning was a beautiful morning, but deer movement was slow. Then about the time I was going to get down, I saw some movement to my left. Nice sized bobcat slipping in on some squirrels out in front of me. Watched it for 15 minutes while it slowly stalked its way in. He gets behind big oak tree and I get my bow off hanger. He gets behind another big tree and I draw back. He comes into the perfect lane,.... 10 yards. I touch my release and BAAAAAMMMM. Explosion. Arrow still on my rest. Very confused, the cat and I. I calm down to find my string exploded on me at release. But quick enough to not send the arrow. Appears to have busted at peep sight. Anyway, I called local bow store and they have “a string” to fit halon 6 and will install today. Do I need to order one from America’s Best? Or should the one they put on be good enough? Ideally I would come see you, but I know you’re done until spring Thanks

Which shop has the string and who built it? Ditch the peep that was in that string. It most likely had a burr that cut it.

If you had a Shaw string I doubt youd have had any problem...just saying. And with every string you get a free box of Keebler cookies!

Sucks to hear you had that happen, seems like you missed out on a great opportunity to take that cat. You probably aren't alone in having this happen, though. While it sounds like you have a great local shop and the cost wasn't too high, I found a guide for replacing these strings DIY. Link: How To Replace Bowstrings And Cables On A Mathews HalonThis might not be a help to you, specifically, but I'm sure someone out there who doesn't want to drop about $100 on having this done will find some value.
